Social connection and event experiences
MATTTCHES
Turning a vision for meaningful introductions into an app
An event connection app built around profile games, reflection questions and shared interests that can start a real conversation.
The need
MATTTCHES began with a specific challenge: bringing people to the same event did not necessarily give them a meaningful way to connect. Matt Budden wanted introductions based on the experiences and passions people shared, with enough context to begin a real conversation. Delivering that idea required more than a matching score. The product needed to learn about participants, find useful common ground and translate it into an experience that worked around an organised event.
What Tech Local built
Tech Local developed the mobile app and supporting event tools around profile games, reflection questions, matching and conversation prompts. We worked with Matt to refine what the questions should uncover: deeper context about a person’s interests rather than simply a longer profile. That direction shaped how shared themes and opening questions were presented to participants. We also worked on the organiser side of the experience, connecting the mobile journey to event administration and continuing to refine the workflows through feedback.
Important workflows
Go beyond a short bio
Profile games and reflections explore interests, values and experiences as context for a connection.
Find a conversation starter
Shared themes and opening questions give an introduction more substance than a name and a photo.
Design around the event
The mobile experience and organiser tools are developed together, with ongoing refinement of the event journey.

Practical value
MATTTCHES became an iOS product that put the idea of more meaningful introductions into people’s hands. Profiles, shared themes and conversation prompts provide context for meeting someone new. The event experience continues to evolve through organiser and participant feedback.
